Financial aid

Students in the bachelor’s and major in philosophy programs can apply each year for four bursaries that are exclusively available to them. The Department offers two yearly departmental scholarships for academic excellence to second-year students, and a departmental scholarship for academic excellence to a third-year student. These bursaries are for $ 1,000 each and are awarded on the basis of the applicants' cumulative grade average.
The Department also offers an annual $1,000 scholarship for community involvement. This bursary is open to all students in the department upon submission of an application highlighting their contributions to either the university community or the community at large. Eligibility requirements and application procedures are available on the website of UQAM’s Financial Aid department.

For more information on departmental bursaries, please contact the Undergraduate Administration office.

Philosophy students can also apply for a number of other bursaries offered to undergraduate students in general by Fondation de l’UQAM and other organizations. To learn about these bursaries and about the different financial aid programs available at UQAM, please see the Financial Aid site. Feel free to contact the Undergraduate Administration office for application tips.

The Department offers admission bursaries for the master’s and PhD programs. Bursaries are awarded at the time of admission, from all the admission applications received by the submission deadline. All students submitting an application for admission to the programs are automatically considered for these awards. Bursary recipients must commit to pursuing full-time studies at UQAM for two consecutive years. The Department expects bursary recipients to seek financial aid from external organizations during the period in which they are receiving the admission bursary.

Note that a portion of these bursaries is provided by UQAM’s general graduate excellence bursary program: Bourses d’excellence régulière de l'UQAM pour les cycles supérieures. Therefore, departmental bursary recipients are not eligible to apply for a general graduate excellence bursary. They become eligible for a general graduate excellence bursary only once the period of financial support from the Department is over.

Students can also get contracts to do research, editing, coaching, lecturing, etc. Those interested should contact the Department of Philosophy or the Graduate Program office.

Students are invited to discuss their financial support opportunities with their research supervisor and with their program administration office.
